Atrium Health Foundation serves as the point of contact for all the charitable contributions to Atrium Health in the Charlotte area. When the Foundation was looking to relocate their offices closer to the Pearl Innovation district near Uptown Charlotte, they acquired the former Charlotte Women’s Club and partnered with Redline to convert it to suit their needs. Built in 1924 by the locally renowned architect Charles C. Hook, the property is a designated historic landmark due to the civic importance of the clubhouse to the city. Harkening back to the building’s original purpose, the Foundation will host fundraising events in their new space, including seated dinners, cocktail hours, and garden parties. A large 30-person boardroom was also created to be used by the Atrium Health executives, in addition to the Foundation’s offices on the lower level. The design team was challenged to maintain the historical character of the exterior while updating to improve accessibility throughout the building with new ramps and an elevator. On the interior, each room has its own distinct features that were highlighted by the new materials. The project is now an excellent example of how a historic building can be adapted for modern times.
