Community Transit Center

Charlotte, NC
1,580 sqft

This unique civic project has allowed REDLINE to show its talent in producing high design at low cost to the community. The Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) has hired REDLINE to produce a community conscious, driver comfort, ticketing and security station for bus drivers and police. Also in the scope are several shelters for bus riders to seek protection from the elements while awaiting their bus to arrive. REDLINE was tasked to work integrally with a local African American artist to provide artwork, both within the hardscaping and the building facade, that represents the local community's ethnicity. The result is a very sleek, modern approach that is transparent and minimal in its impact on the site. A large art wall will allow for a cast, stained concrete art piece, by the artist Chandra Cox. The shelters also echo this modernist approach with thin steel structure and transparent glass panels. The result is a piece of architecture that is complimentary of the community as well as easy to build and within budget.
